Why I started The Present?
I started The Present simply because my life revolves around three things: books, my dogs and cats, and my work in technology.
Initially, I only planned to write about Books. I’m not an expert, nor do I claim to be highly intellectual. I just noticed that fewer young people are reading these days. I simply wanted to share the joy of reading—how books can take us to places we’ve never been and teach us things we’ve never known. Most importantly, they help us realize that what we think we know isn't necessarily right, and what we don't know isn't necessarily wrong.
Regarding Pets, I want to reiterate: I am not an expert. Even though I’ve been raising dogs for over 20 years, my experience isn't automatically the "correct" way. I never dare to offer medical advice or care instructions because wrong information could harm the animals. For health issues, it's always better to see a vet.
The Present was born after a scare of a lifetime: My Shiba (Kin) and Akita (Haru) escaped and went missing for over 4 hours. I couldn't find them anywhere and was absolutely terrified. That’s why I decided to build the QR Code Tag. I know it doesn't offer instant tracking like GPS because it’s a passive location tool—it only updates when someone finds the pet, scans the tag, and allows location sharing. It’s tricky if the finder isn't cooperative or if your dog is too aggressive to approach. But I just hope it can help in some small way.
As for the Health Record feature, honestly, if you only have 1 or 2 pets, using the Notes app on your phone is faster. But for someone managing a "mini zoo" like me (13 dogs and 4 cats), it’s a lifesaver. I often forget vaccination schedules, so I built this feature to scratch my own itch.
Finally, a reason that cannot be ignored Money. I love the feeling of building a product with my own hands and earning from it. Whether it's a little or a lot—a little money brings a little joy, and a lot of money... well, that’s definitely a lot of joy.
